ITALIAN NATURE, A NEW TEXTILE FUTURE.
A thousand-year history brings us a new textile future.
This magnificent story begins over 500 years ago. The protagonist is ‘La Gentile di Puglia’, a sheep closely connected to the territory from which it comes, the ancient Daunia, in the province of Foggia. Its wool has been a fundamental source of warmth for the local farmers, for their clothing and for their homes. Still today, it represents the most precious product of ‘La Gentile di Puglia’: very fluffy, with a soft touch and a fineness of 24 to 26 mic. This is the origin of a new, long-lasting Marzotto textile history.
We desired to enhance this precious fiber, emphasizing and supporting the work of the many shepherds who still today, as for thousands of years, farm and care for these precious sheep. Totally traceable, from the raw material to the refined garment, this ‘Made in Italy’ is revealed in this precious, unique yarn, from which another form of art comes to life: that of those who know precisely how to start from the ‘soft touch’ of an extraordinary authentic natural material to create infinite beauty to wear.
“TEXTILE INNOVATION IS ROOTED IN THE EARTH AS WELL AS IN KNOWLEDGE.”
The time of nature and respect for the animal: from here comes the finest quality wool.
The physical and psychological well-being of the animals is an essential precondition of this project, both from an ethical and qualitative point of view. Care and nutrition of the sheep is paramount, as is the method of breeding, which is not conducted intensively, but according to the ancient method of transhumance. This refers to the movement of shepherds from South to North, travelling up to a hundred kilometres along the semi-natural ‘sheep-tracks’, deeply listening to the seasons and the rhythms of nature. Naturally mulesing-free, this wool satisfies the sustainability standards required by the textile industry nowadays.
